Artist Statement:

My paintings are sensual and poetic. Their compositions
entice the viewer to enter, and take part. They are micro-
cosmic views of nature, which sometimes go into the ab-
stract. Their curvaceous shapes, bold colors and hard
edges are reflections of the yin and yang energies of life.
I use many layers of paint and glaze to create this world. It
is a careful, timely procedure that brings a special lumino-
sity and glow to each unique painting.

Biography:

Karen was born on November 25, 1956 in Baltimore Mary-
land. As a child she loved creating art, exploring nature and
making collections of flora and fauna. During High School,
Karen studied painting and drawing with a talented artist
named Edward Saffell. He encouraged her to follow her
passion.

In 1981, Karen graduated from Towson University, where
she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art & Education.
When visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1986, Karen fell in
love with its beautiful light, vivid landscapes and vast arts scene.
She now happily resides there with her husband John, her son
Nat and her miniature Dachshund, Lola. Karen’s paintings have
been exhibited in innumerable galleries and publications
throughout the country. She continues to teach art, to young and
old alike.
